Term 2: Monday 23 April – Monday 18 June

Each term should also include two Sunday outings and possibly also a night shoot.

Please contact us to register your interest.

A overcast day at Werribee Open Range Zoo

Rosie and I joined 14 other WCC members and their guests on the final Sunday outing for the year to Werribee Open Range Zoo – Yes there were 16 of us including new members Paul Spence and John Ho, and several guests; husbands, wives and in-laws. It was a cold, almost wet, windy Club Outing – what more would we have expected!!!

Undaunted, and by the good offices of Mary McLean who organised us all into the 11.10am bus, we all sat together each with a window and we took pictures to our hearts content. Of course the first thing we did given the overcast conditions, was to re-set our ISO ratings – some to ‘auto’ others up to 400. Some of us even remembered Andrew Harrison mentioning the other night that an overcast sky can take the place of a soft-box and did nothing with ISO ratings.

After the interesting safari ride into a wet and dull African Savanna on which we were able to spot Hippo, Zebra, Giraffe, Rhinos we went for a walk into the jungle seeing many other animals such as Cheetah, Lions, monkeys, African Wild Dogs. Later we had some well deserved lunch and another walk to look at kangaroos and emus. It was long after 3.00pm when the afternoon ended and we headed home. And as we drove home, guess what? the sun came out to give us the feeling of quiet contentment, we had indeed spent a warm day on the African Weldt.

I hope you had a great day and learned some photography tips and techniques. We also hope that you can be with us next year when we have our first Sunday Outing for 2012 – Daybreak at Williamstown on the 5th of February. Pray for some sunshine and a great sunrise, see you at the End of Year Night.

Cheers Andy

Photoshop group in 2012

After a fun and largely successful year teaching Photoshop to our members, Warren is happy to say that the classes will continue in 2012. However there will be a change to the format, it will be tailored toward beginners only. The classes will be held once a month on the fourth Wednesday, with the first meeting on 25 January, 2012.

For this class a Beginner as obviously someone who has never used Photoshop or if you have tried using it and are:

  • Overwhelmed by all the tools and functions
  • You are not sure when to use one tool over another
  • Can’t make proper masks
  • Struggle with layers or don’t know what adjustment layers are
  • Struggle with topics such as file size, RAW editing

Each month’s lesson will build on what was taught the previous month so hopefully by the end of the year you will have a good grasp of the fundamentals. This has been found to be a better approach than randomly doing topics based on issues people are having at the time.

For this to work:

  • Each participant will need their own laptop with Photoshop installed. This is quite important as
students this year that shared or did not have a laptop found it hard to keep up.

It is hoped that by the end of the year participants will:

  • feel comfortable using Photoshop
  • be able to look at an image and know what techniques to use to make them better
  • know how to better evaluate an image
  • improve the quality of their EDI and more importantly start producing better prints

Please contact Ian Hansen if you would like to participate.

End of year night – Tuesday 6 December 2011

Next Tuesday night in the craft room of the Mount Waverley Community Centre will be our end of year night.

On display will be our best images for open prints, monochome prints and open EDI entries and trophies will be awared for the top entry in each section. The trophies for aggregate points will also be awarded, as will the president’s trophy.

As always we ask that you bring your partners/loved ones and a small plate of food.
