RULES

A few people have asked me what the rules are. Well, “there are no rules”, “the judges decision is final”, “I’ll be the judge of that, thank you”, “no correspondence will be entered into” , “you gotta be in it to win it”, “make ’em laugh or make ’em cry”, “anything goes”. Remember “rules are made to be broken”.

“Break a leg”.

Sunday Outing 2nd Nov – Royal Cranbourne Botanical Gardens

The November Sunday outing is to the Royal Botanical Gardens in Cranbourne and as it is Springtime there should be plenty of budding plants to grab the attention of those close up photographers. There is also quite a bit of modern art at the gardens as well as several pleasant walks. For the wildlife photographer there is usually an abundance of New Holland Honeyeaters and I have seen Bandicoots amongst the gardens but they are a challenge to see never mind to photograph. The gardens also boast several walks including a 4km nature trail and a bushland experience.

End of year competition 2014

It is time for members to consider their entries for the end of year competition. Of images entered throughout the year, members can select from those to enter the end of year competition with three images in each of:

  • Colour printed
  • Monochrome printed
  • Open EDI

The entry must have been entered into a 2014 monthly competition and in the same format. A print must have been previously entered as a print, and an EDI must have been previously entered as an EDI. An EDI cannot be printed and entered as a print, or vice versa.

Entries are due by our November competition night which is on Tuesday 28 October. Bring your prints along to be placed in the competition box, but do not resend your EDI files to the comptetion address, you only need to send through the filename of each entry.

Don’t forget about the President’s Trophy. The topic this year is “Clichés and Sayings”.

4-Club Late 2014 – Results

On the same night as the October competition, the 4-Club Interclub competition was held at Eastern Suburbs Camera Club’s new club rooms in Blackburn. Unfortunately due to miscommunication, Ringwood hadn’t entered and the night ended up being a 3-club event. WCC did as well as ever although we only retained one of the trophies instead of the two we had won earlier in the year. Although everyone as usual contributed to the overall scores, I would like to mention that Interclub rookie, Jason Roy Price scored 13 Points for his image Inside the Bean, well done Jason.

Here are the results starting with members special awards:

* Highly Commended (Colour Prints) – Slow Morning Cat Bay – Vicki Moritz
* Highly Commended (Mono Prints) – Iesha – Cuc Chong
* Highly Commended (Projected) – On the Way Home – Felix Shparberg

Sunday Outing – 5th October 2014 – Mentone Sunset

We’ve all seen those dreamy seascape shots with the fluid sky and flat calm looking water but how many of us know how those are created. Well, on Sunday 5th October the cat will be out of the bag and who better to let the cat out than a session with Alistair Wilson.

Sunday’s outing will be a fantastic opportunity to spend time with Alistair and learn how to use filters and slow shutter speeds to capture those stunning seascape photos. Rumour has it that his mother may be there too and she is also a very accomplished seascape photographer along with a few other club members who have shown promise is this area.

The session is conveniently located at Mentone and will start at 6.45 pm on Sunday 5 October 2014, so this time you can have your lie in and eat your cake. Meet at the pier remains directly opposite where Warrigal Road hits Beach Road.

If you were at Alistair’s workshop earlier this year you will know this outing is not to be missed.
