Monthly Competitions

Waverley Camera Club member competitions are held each month in four categories:

A Grade Prints
B Grade Prints
A Grade EDI Images
B Grade EDI Images

The ‘Prints’ categories include both monochrome (a single colour, usually black, and white) and colour prints. Competition prints should be mounted and not framed. For each entry please submit a digital copy of the image for projection during the meeting; this should follow the same rules as for the EDI categories; the file name for this image should take the form:

WCCLPYYMM-##Z-title

Note the P! See the notes below for the meaning of L, YYMM, ## and Z.

EDI’s are projected via the club’s data projector at its native resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels.. Digital files can be submitted by email to comp@waverleycameraclub.org ; if you do not have easy access to email, a CD may be entered.

NB: If you submit a digital file by email and you do not receive an auto reply acknowledging your submission, your image may not have been received. Please contact the EDI competition steward.

Please ensure that all images submitted via email are included as image attachments and not as embedded images.

The following rules apply:

1. All entries (max 2) must arrive by the first Tuesday in the month prior to the competition

2. The same image should not be used in both the EDI and print competitions, unless significantly altered

3. All EDI images should be resized to be a maximum of 1024 pixels wide and 768 pixels tall (resize landscapes for up to 1024 wide, and portraits for up to 768 tall. Files from a 4:3 format digital camera will size to exactly 1024 x 768. If the images are outside these guidelines, the Competition Steward will try to contact the entrant, or resize the image. The dpi setting has no meaning for these projected images, it is only used when making prints.)

4. Files should be JPEG of less than 1 megabyte in size

5. File names should be as follows:  xxxLYYMM-##Z-title (Note that there is a dash before and after the ##z)

- Here, xxx identifies the competition, and will be WCC for our monthly comp
- L identifies the level (A or B)
- YYMM is year and month of the comp, eg 0904, must be 4 digits
- ## is your member number, must be 2 digits
- Z is used to distinguish your entries, eg A or B
- Title is your chosen title for the image

For example: WCCA0905-20B-Waterfall.JPG would be the filename for our May comp by A grade member 20 for their second entry, titled ‘Waterfall’.

Images for the following month’s competition should be  submitted to the Competition Stewards on the first Tuesday of each month at the current month’s judging evening.

Grading

Promotion from B to A grade will be via two routes, both based on the number of Merits, Highly Commendeds and Best Image awards received.

Each month points are awarded in both the print and EDI competitions, for both A and B grades as follows:
- Merit Award – 2 points
- Highly Commended award – 3 points
- Image of the Month – 4 points

These points will be aggregated to give an annual aggregate score.
The B grader with the highest aggregate in a year will automatically go up to A grade.
Additionally, anyone who accumulates 30 points total over the term of his or her membership will immediately be promoted from B to A grade as soon as they have achieved the 30 point mark.
