Congratulations go to Teddy Tan who has gained 5 acceptances in this years Australian Digital Photography Awards, 2009 competition.
Teddy’s achievement here is not only a huge success for Teddy, it also re-inforces the fact that we have such talented members in the club who are not only very successful with their photography, but are only too happy to help others and pass on their knowledge to aspiring members. I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the club to congratulate Teddy on his success here and wish him well in the judging.

Warragul National & Other National Competitions
by Dave Sumner on Jul.08, 2009, under Club outings, National & International competitions
A quick message from the President regarding the Warragul National and other national competitions.
Outing this Sunday.
This Sunday (the 12th) I propose we go to Warragul and have a look at the Warragul National.
A National is a photographic competition open to all Australians and here in Victoria we have three – Ballarat, Warragul and Pakenham. There is also an international comp held every two years in Geelong known as Vigex.
A National is broken up into sections. For example the Pakenham National (which is still open if you want to enter) has the following sections: Open, People/Portraiture, Creative/Experimental, Monochrome, Photojournalism/Social Documentary, Rural Aust., Architecture and Landscape/Seascape.
A National will typically receive in excess of a thousand entries and these entries are all judged in their sections and those with high enough scores (acceptances) are displayed. It is a fantastic opportunity to see some great photography and while we’re in the area we could take some shots ourselves.
We can meet at the exhibition which is at St. Pauls Anglican School, 150 Bowen St, Warragul at 1pm and then go from there to somewhere like Noojee to do some photography of our own.
And keep the 6th of September free as well because that is the date of the Pakenham National.
Environmental Photographer of the Year 2009
by Dave Sumner on Jul.01, 2009, under National & International competitions
Just a quick reminder that there are only four weeks left to enter The Environmental Photographer of the Year 2009. Entries will be accepted until 5pm on 31st July 2009 via www.ciwem.org/arts/photographer.
The Environmental Photographer of the Year 2009 is a serious competition that celebrates photographers who use their ability to raise awareness of environmental and social issues. It is open to all professional and amateur international photographers of any ages. The categories are Changing Climates; A World of Difference; Quality of Life; The Natural World; and the Young Environmental Photographer of the Year (Under 21).
The judging panel is made up of some of the most respected environmental photographers in the industry, including Gary Braasch, winner of the Ansel Adams Award for Conservation Photography, as well as senior environmentalists. Individual pieces of work will be judged on impact, creativity, composition, originality and technical abilities. Winners share a prize fund of £4,000, receive widespread media coverage and are displayed in the Environmental Photographer of the Year exhibition to be launched at 3 Bedfordbury Gallery, Covent Garden, London on 8th October.
Copyright is retained by the photographer (see terms and conditions at www.ciwem.org/arts/photographer).

Berwick Viewfinders Annual Pub National
by Dave Sumner on May.25, 2009, under National & International competitions
The President, Pete Davies is looking to find 3 volunteers to judge at the ‘Pub National’ held by Berwick Viewfinders on 9th June 09 at 6.30pm. See below for details:
I am looking for three volunteers from WCC to act as judges at Berwick Viewfinders annual “Pub National”.
What is a Pub National? It is a competition based on a National (such as the upcoming Warragul National) and it’s held at a pub. It’s only open to members of Berwick Viewfinders and it’s meant to be the best of the preceeding 12 months.
What the judges will be required to do is to be at the Central Hotel in lovely Beaconsfield on Tuesday the 9th of June at around 6:30pm. That’s the hard part!
The easy part is to have a meal and a drink (for which BVCC will give you $20) and look at some photos. Couldn’t be more simple.
Because it’s based on a National there will be a panel of three judges who will each award a score from 1 – 5 after being shown the image for 8 seconds.
At the end of the night scores are toted up and some trophies are handed out and everyone goes home with a smile on their face.
