Photoshop group in 2012

by on Dec.02, 2011, under Photoshop group

After a fun and largely successful year teaching Photoshop to our members, Warren is happy to say that the classes will continue in 2012. However there will be a change to the format, it will be tailored toward beginners only. The classes will be held once a month on the fourth Wednesday, with the first meeting on 25 January, 2012.

For this class a Beginner as obviously someone who has never used Photoshop or if you have tried using it and are:

  • Overwhelmed by all the tools and functions
  • You are not sure when to use one tool over another
  • Can’t make proper masks
  • Struggle with layers or don’t know what adjustment layers are
  • Struggle with topics such as file size, RAW editing

Each month’s lesson will build on what was taught the previous month so hopefully by the end of the year you will have a good grasp of the fundamentals. This has been found to be a better approach than randomly doing topics based on issues people are having at the time.

For this to work:

  • Each participant will need their own laptop with Photoshop installed. This is quite important as
students this year that shared or did not have a laptop found it hard to keep up.

It is hoped that by the end of the year participants will:

  • feel comfortable using Photoshop
  • be able to look at an image and know what techniques to use to make them better
  • know how to better evaluate an image
  • improve the quality of their EDI and more importantly start producing better prints

Please contact Ian Hansen if you would like to participate.

WCC Photoshop Classes

Don’t forget…our monthly Photoshop classes will be starting in February (last Wednesday (23rd) of the month) at Wadham House. Classes will run from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

So far we have had 15 members ‘sign up’.  For the beginner, classes will be structured in a way so that they can learn Photoshop from the ground up. Rather than an ad hoc approach where in each class we tackle a multitude of issues that individuals may be having I think a better approach would be to structure the learning from the very basics to more complicated tasks over the course of the year. Hopefully by doing this people can learn at a steady pace and build on their skills over a period of time. Intermediate uses will also gain knowledge when topics such as setting up Photoshop (first session), blending modes, smart objects, and masks (just to name a few) are covered in later sessions.

Other topics that will be covered include image evaluations and how Photoshop can be used to enhance images for competitions which include producing better prints.

Ideally you will have a laptop with Photoshop installed or you could possibly share with someone.  Why? The only way to learn will be to do it yourself therefore these will be hands on classes, so you will be doing as much work in class as me (and at home!).

*** PLEASE NOTE *** You won’t be able to just turn up and attend as numbers are strictly limited so If you want to take part you will have to register your interests with either Pete Davies or myself.

Cheers

Warren
