Club Outing – Sunday 6th Nov 2011

by on Oct.27, 2011, under Outings

Hi all – the next scheduled WCC Sunday Outing is  Sunday the 6th November at Chesterfield Farm and the Traction Engine Museum. The address for Chesterfield Farm is 1221 Ferntreegully Road Scoresby 3170 and the Melways Reference is 72 D8.  You must pay to get into the farm but the traction engine display is FREE.

I have put an emphasis on scheduled because there has been at least one other unscheduled suggestion this month.  The take-up for the unscheduled suggestion was not good.

Just opposite The Farm at 1200 Ferntreegully Road Scoresby is the Traction Engine Museum.  This is a collection of traction engines maintained by the Steam and Traction Engine Club in the South Eastern Suburbs.  They have a large and varied collection of steam engines including ploughing engines, steam rollers, portable engines and a large collection of industrial engines, marine engines and stationary steam engines. THIS IS A STATIC DISPLAY.
On Sundays they also run a miniature railway.
They are opened from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm each Sunday and entrance to the museum is FREE. There is a small donation box.

But on the LAST Sunday of the month which is Sunday the 30th October they will ‘raise steam’ and run as many of the engines as they have volunteers for, in the areana.  So all you steam buffs, if you want to make images of steam engines working in a captive environment then go down there on Sunday the 30th October first. I think Rosie and I will.

Given the farm is opened reasonably early but the steam museum is opened after 11.00am i’m suggesting it will be a longer day with lunch in the car so together with wide angled lens, tripod and flash unit dont forget to bring along a picnic basket, a drink or two and some water.  Rosie and I will try to be at the Farm reasonably early and stay ontill the Traction Engine display is opened.  I love trains  – dont you!!!

One thing I havnt been able to confirm is the weather for the 6th November but who in his/her right mind will try to predict the weather in Melbourne several days ahead?

Cheers folk and have a great day- Andy

4-Club Interclub Competition – Tuesday 25th October 2011

by on Oct.20, 2011, under Competitions

As you are now probably aware you have given me the honour of being your President for the next 12 months. Filling Pete Davies shoes will be no easy task but with your support and help we can sure give it a big try.

As you may remember WCC is hosting the 4 Club Competition this coming Tuesday 25 October. Your committee members are doing all the hard yards in organising the night, setting up the displays organising the audio/video etc. All we need now is for our members to come along and support their efforts and those members whose prints are to be put in front of the judge.

We do need an indication of the numbers likely to come so I ask that each of you to give us 30 seconds and please respond and let us know if you are coming along or are unlikely to attend. Given you are coming can I remind you to please bring a plate of finger food for afters.

The event will be hosted at:

The Australian Institute of Prosfessional Photography(AIPP)

205A Middleborough Road

Box Hill

7:30 pm for 8:00pm start.

Please remember this is your club

Regards Ian Hansen

End of year competitions for 2011

by on Oct.09, 2011, under Competitions

The October competition marked the last of our monthly competitions for the year. In the past we would have a November competition, but as the judging night was Melbourne Cup Day it was more difficult to find a judge and attendance was typically low. Coupled with us hosting the 4 Club competition at the end of October, the November competition was removed from the schedule.

Now, this does not mean that club members can sit idle, those that submitted an entry during the year can enter the end of year competition with three images in each of:

  • Colour printed
  • Monochrome printed
  • Open EDI

The entry must have been entered into a 2011 monthly competition and in the same format. A print must have been previously entered as a print, and an EDI must have been previously entered as an EDI. An EDI cannot be printed and entered as a print, or vice versa.

Technically these entries are due on Tuesday 1 November 2011, but as we are not having a meeting that night, please bring your prints along to the 4 Club night on Tuesday 25 October. Email through the name and month that your EDI entries were entered previously. If you cannot bring your prints to the 4 Club night, then let me know via the competition email address.

The end of year judging night is Tuesday December 6 and as always we ask that you bring your partners/loved ones and a small plate of food.

Also, don’t forget about the President’s Trophy. The topic this year is “End of the line” and you can submit three EDI entries directly to Pete by Friday 2 December 2011.
