Coming Up on Tuesday Night – Framing Matting and Backing Workshop

by on Jun.18, 2012, under Workshops

Amendment Notice – Please note the amendment to the Vice President’s email regarding this workshop night, we will be matting and not mating the prints, sorry.    🙂

This time, at great expence to the management, your Committee is putting together a Framing Matting and Backing Workshop on Tuesday the 19 of June. Fred Bullock, Stephen Edmonds, Dave Sumner, John Hadfield and a couple of others have very kindly offered their time to do this thing and they will also briing along their tools – they will even let you use them for the evening.

What should you bring?
Bring a PRINT, one that you would like to mat all by yourself;
bring some matting material; Abacus Art in Warrigul Road will be able to help you with this, tell them that you are a member of the Waverley Camera Club,  they are used to Rosie and I coming in from time to time and I know that sometimes they like to give away the scrap bits which are quite useful to practice with and bring along some enthusiasm; there is nothing worse than to see that “…do I have to?” look on the faces of workshop participants. The folk helping you are experts in the area and are really willing to help.

What are we doing – Framing Matting and Backing Workshop
Why are we doing this – So that you can mount and display your own prints
When are we doing this – Tuesday 19th
What time are we doing this- 7.30 pm should be early enough
Where are we doing this – Wadham House, Wadham Pde, Off Miller Crescent, Mt Waverley

WCC Vice President

Report: Terry Lane – Life and Times of a digital imaging reviewer, ‘someone has to do it’

by on Jun.15, 2012, under General

Wednesday 13th June 2012 saw a special night at Waverley Camera Club, a presentation by the renowned radio broadcaster, newspaper columnist and well known contributor to the AGE’s Green Guide, Terry Lane. Terry’s 40 minute talk which is entitled ‘Life and Times of a digital imaging reviewer, someone has to do it’ went down very well to a packed Craft Room at City of Monash’s Community Hall in Mount Waverley. Terry’s knowledge of the cutting edge in cameras fascinated members and guests alike and Terry happily answered many questions afterwards. It was a huge pleasure to see that Terry had enough time to stay behind to converse with the members after his talk. Waverley Camera Club would like to thank Terry Lane for giving up his valuable personal time for the benefit of the club members.

Also on display was an exhibition of prints by Waverley Camera Club’s special member, John Friend who is in his ninties. John’s exhibition was filled with just stunning vibrant images that he had taken over his many years as a press photographer. John has worked as a press photographer extensively in Europe, and in Australia he spent years with the now folded Argus Newspaper (which most would not have heard of) and later on 22 years at the ABC Gordon street studios as a Senior Cameraman and later as a Lighting and Technical Director. Many of Johns images are registered and held with the State Library Latrobe Picture Collection and he has also exhibited at the Monash Gallery of Art.

Special thanks must go to the club President, Ian Hansen (pictured below) for organising the entire evening which was a great success.

Sunday Outing 3rd June 12 – A Disappointing Turnout

by on Jun.04, 2012, under Outings

I was a little disapointed that only 5 of us turned up at Churchill Island for the club Sunday outing.  But having said that I am not surprised, as soon as the rain started, last night, my expectations fell.  It was cold and wet but Donna, Brian, Rosie, Diana and I braved the weather believeing some of you might have turned up too and we went out there.  Yes there were lots of things to see, but no not a lot of light to take pictures in. There were several interesting walking paths and indeed we took them but the mild but presistant rain dulled the excitement, must have dulled the senses too.  Highlight of the day was the very good company the fine lunch and being out in the great outdoors.  Thank you for coming Brian, Donna, Diana and My Rosie – the rest of you missed out!

Cheers Andy
