For members who are interested in entering National Competitions there are several upcoming competitions available. Rosie Hughes has found the organisers of these competitions to be approchable and helpful.
Further information, including entry forms, is available on the Australian Photographic Society website under Competitions / Exhibitions.
In the coming year we will be having ten monthly competitions.
In a change from previous years, all of the monthly competitions will be open, ie there will be no set subjects. However please note that the March and September competitions will be open monochrome. You can use any subject you wish, but it must be treated as monochrome.
In order to avoid having a judging night on Cup Day in November, the judging night for the November competition (and the due date for the end of year competition) will be on the last Tuesday in October.
Finally, please remember that entries are due for our February competition next Tuesday 10 January, 2012. This will be a BBQ at a location still to be determined.
Update: The BBQ will be at Jells Park, arrive as early as 5pm, second hut near the main carpark when entering from Waverley Road.
Tonight was our end of year night where the aggregate score winners from throughout the year were first announced:

As our outgoing president, Pete also announced the winners of the “End of the Line” President’s Trophy with the winner announced as
Fred Seeber – End of the Hills Line
Thank you to all that came to support the evening and especially all that took part.
Next Tuesday night in the craft room of the Mount Waverley Community Centre will be our end of year night.
On display will be our best images for open prints, monochome prints and open EDI entries and trophies will be awared for the top entry in each section. The trophies for aggregate points will also be awarded, as will the president’s trophy.
As always we ask that you bring your partners/loved ones and a small plate of food.
The October competition marked the last of our monthly competitions for the year. In the past we would have a November competition, but as the judging night was Melbourne Cup Day it was more difficult to find a judge and attendance was typically low. Coupled with us hosting the 4 Club competition at the end of October, the November competition was removed from the schedule.
Now, this does not mean that club members can sit idle, those that submitted an entry during the year can enter the end of year competition with three images in each of:
The entry must have been entered into a 2011 monthly competition and in the same format. A print must have been previously entered as a print, and an EDI must have been previously entered as an EDI. An EDI cannot be printed and entered as a print, or vice versa.
Technically these entries are due on Tuesday 1 November 2011, but as we are not having a meeting that night, please bring your prints along to the 4 Club night on Tuesday 25 October. Email through the name and month that your EDI entries were entered previously. If you cannot bring your prints to the 4 Club night, then let me know via the competition email address.
The end of year judging night is Tuesday December 6 and as always we ask that you bring your partners/loved ones and a small plate of food.
Also, don’t forget about the President’s Trophy. The topic this year is “End of the line” and you can submit three EDI entries directly to Pete by Friday 2 December 2011.
The topic for this years President’s Trophy is:
As you all should know this is my last year as President so you should get some decent topics from next year.
You can enter up to four images and the deadline is Friday the 2nd of December.
The main aim of this competition is to have fun and enjoy your photography. The winner will not necessarily be the most technically proficient image so don’t be thinking you’re not good enough to have your name on the most prestigious of all the end of year trophies. Get out there and have a go.
Cheers,
Pete
