BBQ Report – Tuesday 14th Jan 2014.

On behalf of the WCC Committee, I would just like to say a big thank you to those members who braved the 43 degree heat to attend the BBQ on Tuesday 14th Jan. There was around 25 people there with one or two new members who I think also had a great time. We did lots of chatting, created a meeting agenda for Friday and other photography orientated activities.

Thanks again for attending and if you didn’t make it for whatever reason, there is always next year.

Happy Birthday for the 14th Jan Andrew

Club Outing, Tuesday 14th Jan 2014 – Annual BBQ at Brickmakers Park

Dear All,

The outing on the 14th Jan 2014 will be held at Brickmakers Park in Oakleigh and is the annual club BBQ. The BBQ will start at 7pm and it is a bring and cook your own event although there are BBQ’s provided.

***PLEASE NOTE*** You will need to bring along prints for the February Competition as this will be the latest date for entries. I will be collecting the prints on Andy’s behalf as he will be away and the usual boxes will be available. Prior to the BBQ, you can also deliver prints to my house (email me for the address) or drop them off at Monash City Council’s Civic Centre during working hours. If you do come to the council office, please ensure that you ask for me in person and tell the staff that you are dropping off prints for me to collect so they can contact me. EDI Images can be emailed as usual at any time.

Parking at Brickmakers is along Stamford Road which can be accessed from FTG Road. Please see the maps below. Hope to see you all at the BBQ.

Sutherland Shire National Exhibition of Photography – Results 2013

I’m pleased to announce that two members of WCC have achieved excellent results in the Sutherland Shire National Exhibition of Photography competition for 2013. As you may well guess, one of them is Vicki Moritz who always does well in anything she enters and in this case she has achieved FIRST PLACE, the mark of an excellent photographer. The other is Anthony Yap who is just up and coming in the club and there is just no holding Anthony Back. He has huge enthusiasm for all things photography and we all should look to him for inspiration in the coming years, another excellent photographer in the making. Anthony has achieved two Commended awards in this competition.

Please see the details below:

End of Year Results for 2013

Tuesday 3rd Dec was WCC’s End of Year Function which had a new format this year. We combined End of Year Night with the Xmas Dinner and had one big function with a heavily subsidised meal. The night went very well with 81 members attending, which has to be some sort of record. I know that a few years ago when we had to move the competition nights to the Craft Room because Wadham House was full, I remember thinking we’ll never fill this room and now we are packing out the Main Hall, where to next Jeff’s Shed, MCG???

There was a lot of effort went into making last night a success and the committee deserve a big thanks for the effort put in to make the night run as smoothly as it did and also a big thanks to all who helped clean up afterwards. However, there is one big thank you that has to be said again and that is to Paul Spence, the club’s new president without who the night would not have gone so well. His relentless efforts with AV’s, slideshows and Brownlow type scoring just made the night go so well. We must also say a very very large thank you to Danny Beganoff and CR Kennedy’s who so very kindly donated all of those raffle prizes. Danny goes to great lengths to support the club and we are all pleased that he could turn up and join us for the evening.

There were quite a few funny comments made during the night but the best thing of all was Stuart giving Andy a kiss on the head, his face is just a picture.

Of course the night wouldn’t have been a success without the members and their relentless efforts to enter the monthly competitions. The skills of the members just shone out from the screen and the prints on the table, it really is a talented group we have. Of course not everyone can be a winner and not everyone can win the coveted ‘President’s Trophy’, but Fred Seeber did and not for the first time either. This and AV’s are obviously Fred’s forte, well done Fred and watch those glasses in my coffee.

Now of course the night is all about the End of Year Competition and the three categories for this, EDI Images, Open Prints and Mono Prints and there is one name mentioned about three times too many but nevertheless, it is what it is and here are the winners of the EoY competition as judged by Stuart De Silva and Landon Abbot of S M L XL

Of course, President’s Trophy and the End of Year Competition aside, we had the aggregate winners for the year and it was a hotly contested affair this year especially in A Grade. I have to say, watch out Vicki Rosie and Pete, Cuc Chong and Anthony Yap are coming to win your trophies from you next year. But joking aside, we have some of the best amateur photographers in Victoria and dare I say it, Australia in our club and we are very lucky to have even more talent on the way up. All that said here are the winners of the aggregate points for 2013.

All winners together

I’m sure that you will agree that this was one of the best events we have ever held so we may see it repeated next year, fingers crossed. Also if this is what we’re doing at the end of this year, goodness knows what 2014 is going to be like, it looks very promising indeed.

From all of the committee, I would just like to say a very big thank you to all of our members for their support throughout 2013 and we look forward to seeing you next year. Have a very merry Christmas and a joyous New Year and may your Canon camera wishes come true, especially yours Cookie.

See you in 2014

Dave Sumner

Sunday Outing 1st Dec 13 – South Melbourne

We will be holding a club Sunday outing to South Melbourne on the 1st December 2013.

We will meet outside of Melbourne Camera Club at 10am, MCC is located on the corner of Dorcas and Ferrars Streets (see map) and there is street parking here. I have arranged permission with South Melbourne Market (see map) to access the market with the intentions of taking pictures and their only stipulation is that we ask the stall holders before taking pictures of any individual stalls. On the way to the market we will need to cross the tram tracks via the bridge at South Melbourne Light Rail Station, Yarra Trams have also given us the go ahead to photograph on the station and bridge (see map). Their only stipulation is that we stay behind the yellow lines at all times and that some drivers do not like their picture taken so be warned.

We will hopefully find enough to photograph at these two sites to be able to be there for lunch at 12.30 and then we will walk to the South Melbourne Town Hall (see map) via Ward Street (see map) and Dorcas Streets. Ward street has a lot of fine examples of older Melbourne Houses (see map) and Dorcas Street gives us access to the rear of the Town Hall building via Marshall and Daly Streets. I have requested access to the town hall but I suspect that it will be closed on Sunday but if on the off chance I can gain access to the building, I will let you know on the day.

Once we have finished photographing the Town Hall we can walk back along Park Street and turn right into Ferrars Street and back to the start point for about 3pm.

Apart from the market and the station, the majority of shots will probably be of an architectural nature, we might see how creative people can get with their shots. I’m not sure who is attending the outing but I will be there to help if anyone stuck or is struggling. If anyone has any further suggestions of where we can photograph in this vicinity then please let me know.
