The AV program will commence on 12 February 2013, however next Tuesday 22 January 2013 we will be gathering at Wadham House to review any AV’s that any members would like to have reviewed and critiqued prior to final submission to the club for consideration as an entry into the May 2013 VAPS Interclub competition.

The AV Group Program starting 12 February 2013 is set out below:

AV Group Casual Night

 Hi All,

The AV Group are having a casual get together next Tuesday 11 December 2012 ( Wadham House 7.30 pm) to discuss the groups proposed activities for next year. If you have ever considered joining the group or wondered if it was for you, why don't you come along and see?

AV's are a fast growing specialist skill within the photographic community with VAPS sanctioned competitions now a regular event.

You will find attached to this email a brochure setting out the proposed 2013 learning schedule for your perusal.

In addition to learning the practical skills required to produce an AV,  members of the group also show AV's they have prepared and provide each other with valuable feedback and encouragement.

If you think you might be interested in joining the AV Group next year please join us next Tuesday. If you would like some more information email Paul Spence

Flash & Portrait Group Meetings in 2012

We will again be running the Flash & Portrait Group Meetings in 2012 and anyone and everyone of our members can turn up to see if you really want to improve your flash and portrait images

The first night will be Tuesday January 24, 2012 which will be a basic introduction to using a flash and what you can expect to learn over the following months.

The technical detail starts on the second meeting in February.

Photoshop group in 2012

After a fun and largely successful year teaching Photoshop to our members, Warren is happy to say that the classes will continue in 2012. However there will be a change to the format, it will be tailored toward beginners only. The classes will be held once a month on the fourth Wednesday, with the first meeting on 25 January, 2012.

For this class a Beginner as obviously someone who has never used Photoshop or if you have tried using it and are:

  • Overwhelmed by all the tools and functions
  • You are not sure when to use one tool over another
  • Can’t make proper masks
  • Struggle with layers or don’t know what adjustment layers are
  • Struggle with topics such as file size, RAW editing

Each month’s lesson will build on what was taught the previous month so hopefully by the end of the year you will have a good grasp of the fundamentals. This has been found to be a better approach than randomly doing topics based on issues people are having at the time.

For this to work:

  • Each participant will need their own laptop with Photoshop installed. This is quite important as
students this year that shared or did not have a laptop found it hard to keep up.

It is hoped that by the end of the year participants will:

  • feel comfortable using Photoshop
  • be able to look at an image and know what techniques to use to make them better
  • know how to better evaluate an image
  • improve the quality of their EDI and more importantly start producing better prints

Please contact Ian Hansen if you would like to participate.
