To remain relevant and responsive to our members in 2018 the committee undertook a survey of members on a number of issues. One of these was to determine whether the current monthly competition structure needed change. After consideration of all the information received, the committee decided to go with a 3 tier competition structure in 2019.
Group 1 – Enthusiast
Members enter and receive comments/ feedback from the Judge, but no awards are allocated. This group is intended to include beginners who are still building their confidence as well as any other member who does not wish to submit their images competitively. Any member, regardless of their skill can opt to be in this group. This will be populated in the first instance with current B grade members and appropriate new members. It is expected some current B grade members will want to move to Intermediate and some A grade members may wish to move to Enthusiast.
Group 2 – Intermediate
This is the entry level competitive group. This group will receive comments/ feedback from the judges and awards as currently allocated. End of year aggregate trophies will be given from the aggregate of results. Many current A grade members will be assigned to this group. Please let us know if you want to change
Group 3 – Advanced
This is the competitive group which includes our best photographers as decided by the committee in the first instance. The decision will be based on their skill as evidenced by their experience, past entries, judging experience, awards and honours. This group will receive comments/ feedback from the judges and awards as currently allocated. End of year aggregate trophies result from the aggregate of results.
Creative competition
This will continue with 4 monthly competition nights having this added section
How to make the change happen?
It is anticipated the list of members initially in each group will be circulated in November to allow for changes to be made. The final list will then be available in December ready for the 2019 competition year.
